XML Catalogs

An XML catalog enables your application to reference imported XML resources, such as DTDs, XSDs and Relax NG Schemas, from a source that is different from that which is part of the description of the Web Service. Redirecting the XML resources in this makes it possible to validate or transform documents without internet access, thus improving performance and making off line work possible. Using XML Catalogs, you can

  • Map a public identifier to a URL. For example, map "-//OASIS//DTD DITA Topic//EN" to "file:///C:/MyDTDs/docs.oasis-open.org/dita/v1.0.1/dtd/topic.dtd".
  • Remap an URL to another one. For example, map "topic.dtd" to "file:///C:/MyDTDs/docs.oasis-open.org/dita/v1.0.1/dtd/topic.dtd".
  • Resolve namespaces: find the correct XSD for the namespace.

XMLBlueprint supports OASIS XML Catalogs version 1.0 and 1.1. For more information on XML Catalogs, please visit:

XMLBlueprint comes with a pre-installed XML Catalog containing several of the most used XSDs. You can add or remove catalogs to give fast access to the XSD's you use. You can also switch of the use of allthe catalogs.
